Kaitlyn Johnson Makes History: Jasper’s very own prodigy, Kaitlyn Johnson, has just made history as the youngest accounting graduate from Athens State University in the last 30 years. At the tender age of 19, Kaitlyn received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a remarkable feat considering the university’s average undergraduate student age of 29.

Kaitlyn’s unique journey involved a fast-tracked homeschool experience and the accumulation of college credit hours at Bevill State Community College, allowing her to transfer to Athens State in 2020.

Throughout her time at Athens State, Kaitlyn not only excelled academically but also took on leadership roles, serving as the treasurer of the accounting club and being an active member of Delta Mu Delta and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Reflecting on her involvement in student organizations, Kaitlyn shared, “Involvement in student organizations placed me in front of future employers through industry tours and career fairs. I was able to hear directly from prospective employers to learn about their work, company and what they expect from new hires.”

Kaitlyn has her sights set on graduate school at Athens State, with aspirations to become a financial advisor. After completing her master’s degree, she envisions herself serving as a chief financial officer for a company. Her goal is to utilize her skills to contribute to business success and establish accounting systems that keep projects on time and on budget.
