Alabama Hands No. 20 Louisville First Loss: In a competitive matchup at the 2023 Betty Chancellor Classic in Katy, Tex., No. 20 Louisville faced its first defeat of the 2023-24 season, falling to Alabama in a closely contested game. Alabama secured a 78-73 upset victory by edging the Cardinals in three quarters and capitalizing on late free throws.

The loss drops Louisville to a 5-1 record for the season, while Alabama remains undefeated at 5-0. Alabama showcased offensive efficiency, connecting on 48% of its field goal attempts and having five players contribute double-figure scoring. The Crimson Tide’s success included hitting nine three-pointers, outpacing Louisville, who managed only three. Additionally, Alabama outscored the Cardinals by 14 points off turnovers.

Despite the setback, Louisville had three players reach double figures in scoring. Nyla Harris led the team with 18 points and added eight rebounds, while Sydney Taylor contributed 17 points. Nina Rickards recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Cochran faced limitations due to foul trouble, scoring nine points with six rebounds.

Louisville struggled with its shooting, managing 41% from the floor and connecting on only 3 of 14 attempts beyond the arc. The team also faced challenges at the free-throw line, converting 66.7% of 24 attempts.

Looking ahead, Louisville will aim to bounce back in its second game at the Betty Chancellor Classic against Liberty on Saturday at noon. The Cardinals will then conclude the event with a matchup against Gonzaga on Monday at 1:45 pm.
