Actor Jamie Foxx Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit: In a recent development, actor Jamie Foxx is facing charges of sexual assault and battery, as per a lawsuit filed in the New York State Supreme Court on Monday.
The incident in question allegedly transpired in 2015 at Catch NYC, a renowned New York City restaurant, according to details from the obtained complaint.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, asserts that Foxx “intentionally and without consent used force to offensively touch Plaintiffs person,” involving inappropriate touching of her breasts and genitals. The complaint notes Foxx’s alleged intoxication during the incident.
As a consequence, the plaintiff claims to have endured and continues to suffer “physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment, and economic harm,” seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
In response, Foxx’s spokesperson refuted the claims, stating, “The alleged incident never happened,” highlighting a previous similar lawsuit filed in 2020 in Brooklyn that was dismissed. The spokesperson expressed confidence that the current claims will meet the same fate and hinted at pursuing a malicious prosecution claim.
Notably, the lawsuit also involves the restaurant’s parent company, Catch Hospitality Group, and related entities as defendants. Allegations of negligent hiring, training, and supervision are brought against them.
Filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, enacted in late November 2022, the lawsuit is allowed due to the law permitting adult survivors of sexual abuse to sue their abusers, even if the statute of limitations had expired. The law, expiring soon, provided a one-year window for such legal actions.
Foxx, an Oscar-winner, faced a medical episode earlier this year, leading to hospitalization in Atlanta. He addressed his recovery in July for the first time.
