UAH Hosts 30th Annual Turkey Trot: The 30th annual Crisis Services of North Alabama Turkey Trot brought together thousands of runners at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
The race, organized by the Crisis Services of North Alabama, took place outside Spragins Hall and saw a record-breaking 2,100 participants, raising over $52,000 for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors.
The funds will support various initiatives, including fixing shelter facilities, acquiring equipment for forensic nurse examiners, and enhancing the crisis helpline. Participants, some of whom have been attending since the first year, displayed enthusiasm by donning festive attire, such as Santa costumes and pumpkin pie hats.
Despite freezing temperatures, the runners embraced the opportunity to spend time with their families. John Priest, a seasoned Turkey Trot veteran, expressed the joy of running with family before indulging in Thanksgiving meals later.
College student Nolan Frame, participating in his first race, highlighted the satisfaction of completing the run alongside family members.
Jocelyn Willis, running with her whole family, reflected on gratitude with each mile. The event brought a sense of community and support, emphasizing the significance of coming together for a charitable cause.
While the Turkey Trot is an annual tradition, participants are reminded that opportunities for giving back extend beyond the event.
