Bulldogs Smash Crimson Tide in Straight Sets: The University of Georgia volleyball team secured a convincing straight sets victory against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Stegeman Coliseum. In front of a season-high crowd of 1,783, the Bulldogs displayed their prowess with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 win. This victory improves Georgia’s season record to 17-11, with an 8-8 standing in SEC play.

Sophie Fischer and Erica Staunton, consistent offensive leaders, contributed significantly with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Fischer’s impressive hitting percentage of .417 added to the Bulldogs’ offensive strength. Kacie Evans also played a key role with nine kills. Defensively, Bailey Cox showcased a season-high performance with 19 digs, while Fischer led at the net with two blocks. Setter Clara Brower orchestrated a well-balanced offense, distributing 32 assists and running a .278-hitting offense against Alabama.

The first set saw Georgia taking an early 5-0 lead, powered by Ana Julia Bleeker’s serving run. Despite Alabama’s efforts to narrow the gap, the Bulldogs secured the set 25-23, with Staunton contributing four kills.

In the second set, Georgia faced a deficit but mounted a comeback, tying the set at 14 and eventually winning 25-18. The momentum carried into the third set, where Georgia established a 10-4 lead and secured the victory with a 25-19 score, completing the sweep.

Head Coach Tom Black expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting improvements from the previous match. He emphasized the team’s focus on getting better each day. Clara Brower highlighted the team’s grit and defensive focus, contributing to their success.

With two SEC victories, the team looks ahead to the final stretch of the season with confidence and a commitment to continuous improvement. The Bulldogs will face LSU in their final road match of the regular season.
