Peyton Parsons and Madison White Propel: In the second round of the NCAA women’s soccer tournament, Texas Tech and Princeton played to a scoreless draw, leading to a thrilling penalty shootout. The record-setting crowd witnessed a high-stakes showdown, with Texas Tech emerging victorious in a 4-3 penalty-kick triumph.

Tech’s Sam Courtwright, Jillian Martinez, and Alex Kerr successfully converted their penalty kicks, setting the stage for a crucial moment. Princeton’s Zoe Markesini missed her shot, and Tech’s Ashleigh Williams had her attempt saved by Princeton’s Tyler McCamey.

With the score tied after the first five kicks, the fate of the match rested on one final penalty kick for each team. Texas Tech goalkeeper Madison White, who had been outstanding throughout the game, made a crucial save, extending the drama. Then, sophomore Peyton Parsons stepped up for Texas Tech and confidently found the back of the net, securing a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout.

Parsons, despite not scoring all season, exuded confidence in her decisive kick. Texas Tech coach Tom Stone praised Parsons’ mental toughness and credited her as a key player in the shootout.

The victory propels Texas Tech into the Sweet 16, where they will face perennial powerhouse North Carolina. The Red Raiders’ resilience and success in the penalty shootout provided them with an opportunity to continue their impressive season.
