Danna Knight Assumes Presidency of Lawrence County: United Way

Danna Knight Assumes Presidency of Lawrence County: Danna Knight has taken on the role of President at Lawrence County United Way, transitioning from her previous position as Vice President. A dedicated member of the Executive Board since 2008, Knight is enthusiastic about leading the charity organization into the next fiscal year. Lawrence County United Way plays a crucial role in funding non-profit agencies, supporting services for individuals in need.

The organization, led by Executive Director Kathy Thrasher, has faced challenges since the closure of International Paper. The shift from a 100% to a 50% matching of employee contributions impacted the budget significantly. The closure of other supporting companies in surrounding counties further strained resources. This decline, coupled with the effects of COVID, has led to cutbacks in various charitable organizations.

Knight acknowledges the difficulties faced by many amid these challenging times. Despite this, she emphasizes the importance of community collaboration to extend outreach and aid those in need. Knight aims to secure additional funding by involving more businesses, government bodies, and individuals.

Being part of an organization that supports non-profits making a meaningful impact brings Knight a sense of pride. The United Way has played a vital role in helping agencies acquire essential equipment, making a tangible difference in people’s lives. Knight’s commitment to giving back to her hometown and community drives her involvement in the United Way.

Despite financial setbacks, Knight and the unpaid United Way board remain dedicated to their mission. The organization has had to reduce funding for agencies and limit the acceptance of new ones due to a critical drop in funds. Donations to the United Way of Lawrence County can be sent to P.O. Box 166, Moulton, AL 35650.
