Christmas Joy Sight Savers America Brings Tech Gifts:13 Folks with Visual Impairments in Mobile

Christmas Joy Sight Savers America Brings Tech Gifts: Christmas is rolling in early for 13 folks with severe visual impairments in Mobile. On Nov. 21, they’ll be unwrapping high-tech gifts—video magnifiers and assistive tech—courtesy of the generous folks at Sight Savers America. This nonprofit, making waves nationwide, focuses on eye care, providing low vision and blind equipment, and the essential training needed.

These lucky 13, handpicked with care, were referred by the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, Community Services for Vision Rehabilitation, and their devoted teachers. The selection criteria? Financial needs and serious visual impairments.

Among the goodies, the Onyx video magnifier takes the spotlight. It’s a desktop marvel using a special camera and monitor to amp up contrast and magnify objects up to 11 times. A game-changer, allowing recipients to dive into reading, writing, and seeing their loved ones with newfound clarity.

Here’s the twist—medical insurance doesn’t usually foot the bill for video magnifiers, which can hit the wallet at around $3,000.

Thanks to the AIDB, EyeSight Foundation of Alabama, Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation, and Vispero, these donations are making a significant impact. It’s a heartwarming early Christmas for those who’ll now see the world a bit clearer.
