Bryant Strong Alabama Softball Coach Lance McMahon: In a small town like Edina, adversity brings out the true spirit of community. The lives of two Knox County families, the Westerns and the Berrys, took an unexpected turn when faced with life-altering challenges.
On January 25th, 14-year-old Bryant Western suffered a severe brain injury in a UTV accident near his home. His skull was broken in multiple places, leading to surgery and a prolonged recovery process. Meanwhile, 10-year-old Alijah Berry is battling Leukemia, showing immense strength in overcoming this tough situation.
However, these families didn’t face these trials alone. The Knox County community rallied behind them, offering unwavering support. One individual, Knox County High School alum and University of Alabama softball pitching coach Lance McMahon, took it upon himself to make a difference.
McMahon organized various events, including a pizza drive and a drive-in movie theater night, to raise funds for the families. His efforts went even further when he decided to bring a special guest to Edina former Alabama pitcher Montana Fouts.
Fouts shared her own experiences of facing challenges on the softball diamond at Alabama and how those lessons translated into real-life resilience. Her message resonated with the community, emphasizing the importance of being resilient and overcoming adversity.
For Megan Western, Bryant’s mother, McMahon and Fouts’ support holds a special place in her heart. The community’s backing, from the benefit events to ongoing support, has been a source of strength for her family.

In a heartfelt speech, Fouts highlighted the significance of gratitude, even in challenging times.
