Senator Merika Coleman Takes the Stage: In Birmingham, Alabama, Senator Merika Coleman declared her candidacy for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District on Friday, joining a group of legislators competing for the seat.

Representing Alabama’s District 19, Coleman is vying for the Democratic nomination in the newly reconfigured congressional district.

In a press release, Coleman stated, “Throughout my years of service, I’ve witnessed the power of unity, the strength in diversity, and the resilience of the human spirit.

As we embark on this journey together, let’s amplify our shared values, break barriers, and build a future where every Alabamian’s voice is not just heard but celebrated. Prior to her Senate tenure, Coleman spent 20 years in the Alabama House of Representatives. Notable legislative achievements include passing an amendment to remove racist language from the state constitution, advocating for human trafficking legislation, and championing the rights of survivors of child sex abuse.

The roster of Alabama Democratic politicians entering the congressional district race includes Coleman, Representative Napoleon Bracy Jr. of Mobile, Representative Anthony Daniels of Huntsville, Representative Jeremy Gray of Opelika, and Representative Juandalynn Givan of Birmingham.
