Alabama Lawrence County Career Technical Center: Embarks on $6.2M Expansion

Alabama Lawrence County Career Technical Center: The Lawrence County Career Technical Center is gearing up for a massive $6.2 million expansion, bringing in four fresh classrooms and four new shops. This exciting development is set to open up more avenues for students.

Principal Robby Vinzant expressed the significance, stating, “The expansion will enable us to broaden our offerings at Lawrence County Career Technical Center (LCCTC). Yearly, we face the challenge of turning away eager students due to high demand for our programs. Our existing facilities fall short, and our aim is to meet the workforce demand and prepare students for lucrative, skilled, and sought-after careers.”

Situated at 179 College St. in Moulton, alongside Lawrence County High School, the expansion encompasses 20,000 square feet, accommodating four classrooms and a dedicated work area for each class. The enhanced center will introduce advanced manufacturing, robotic welding, and additional industrial maintenance and welding classes.

Highlighting the success of the welding and industrial maintenance programs, Superintendent Jon Bret Smith emphasized, “Every student we enroll in these programs secures employment. Collaborating with industries, they express the need for more well-prepared graduates, and that’s precisely what we’re delivering.”

Given the overwhelming demand for these programs, Smith noted, “We’ve had to regretfully deny students entry into the welding and industrial maintenance programs. The expansion will address this by increasing capacity, ensuring more students can actively participate.”

Currently, the center caters to about 400 students across all programs. Post-expansion, it is anticipated to serve over 500 students, including approximately 165 dual-enrollment students actively pursuing short-term certificates in college.
