Tom Hanks Inspires and Predicts LSU-Alabama: Tom Hanks, the well-known actor and devoted supporter of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, delivered an emotional speech and even shared a prediction for the LSU-Alabama game during the opening ceremony of the museum’s Liberation Pavilion on Friday.
Hanks joined other speakers, including Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and Wendell Pierce, an actor and New Orleans native, in emphasizing the message of freedom at the event. According to Hanks, the “single most effective weapon” is the collective drive for liberation among the people. He expressed that the pursuit of liberation is an ongoing task that will endure as long as humanity exists.
Speaking for about 12 minutes without notes, Hanks touched on the U.S. mission and determination to emerge victorious in the war. He also highlighted the founders’ mission to establish the National D-Day Museum, which officially opened its doors in 2000.
In a lighthearted moment, Hanks concluded his speech by expressing hope, faith, and the combined effort that might lead to LSU triumphing over Alabama in the upcoming game. He playfully suggested that if such an outcome could occur, it symbolizes the potential for achieving anything when united.
Hanks has a longstanding connection with the museum, being present at its ribbon-cutting ceremony in 2000. In 2015, Gordon “Nick” Mueller, the museum’s cofounder, praised Hanks for his role as a dedicated public historian, sharing stories of war with newer generations. This dedication earned Hanks the American Spirit Award that year.
