Drug Trafficking Arrest: In the latest update from Marshall County, a New Hope resident faces charges after a thorough drug investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims reported that the incident unfolded when a deputy conducted a traffic stop on October 27 due to a vehicle running a stop sign at the intersection of Shirt Tail Bend Road and New Hope Highway. The driver, who presented a Tennessee driver’s license, claimed to have recently purchased the vehicle from someone named Waylon Holte and was let off with a warning.
Later, the deputy discovered an existing arrest warrant for Holte on drug trafficking charges. Upon realizing that the driver from the earlier stop was Holte, the deputy located the suspect’s vehicle and arrested him without complications. In addition to the trafficking warrant, Holte faces an additional charge of obstruction of justice for using a false identification, with the seized Tennessee driver’s license.
The original trafficking warrant stemmed from a September 13 search warrant executed by SBI agents, supported by Huntsville STAC and Marshall County Drug Task Force agents. The search took place at a residence on 844 Shinpoint Road in New Hope, leading to the detainment of multiple individuals, including Holte.
During the search, agents discovered Holte in possession of approximately 120 grams of methamphetamine. Currency, identified as proceeds from drug sales, and a rifle were also seized. Holte, along with others at the residence, was charged with trafficking.
The ongoing investigation has enabled law enforcement to expand the case into other counties, allowing for the prosecution of additional drug dealers across North Alabama. Holte’s bond for the trafficking charge is set at $250,000, and as of now, no bond has been determined for the new offense of obstruction, according to Sheriff Sims.
