Alabama Resident Faces Charges for Threats: Against Georgia Prosecutor and Sheriff in Trump Election Case

Alabama Resident Faces Charges for Threats: In Atlanta news, an Alabamian is facing federal charges for allegedly making threats against a Georgia prosecutor and sheriff linked to the investigation into former President Donald Trump.

The indictment, returned on October 25 and revealed on Monday, accuses Arthur Ray Hanson II from Huntsville of leaving threatening voicemails for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat on August 6. Hanson, 59, maintains his innocence.

The charges come after Willis obtained an indictment against Trump and 18 others on August 14, alleging their involvement in an attempt to illegally overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia—a highly anticipated move.

Around the time of the impending indictment, Labat was asked about the possibility of Trump having a mug shot taken. Labat’s response during a news conference was straightforward, stating that they would follow normal practices regardless of the person’s status.

Prosecutors claim that Hanson called the Fulton County government customer service line and left threatening voicemails about a week before the indictment against Trump was returned.

In the message to Willis, Hanson allegedly warned her about being vulnerable when charging Trump and advised her to watch her back. The indictment quotes him saying, “When you charge Trump on that fourth indictment, anytime you’re alone, be looking over your shoulder,” among other things.

For Labat, Hanson’s voicemail allegedly contained threats related to taking a mug shot of the president. His alleged comments include, “If you take a mug shot of the president and you’re the reason it happened, some bad (expletive)’s gonna happen to you,” and “You gonna get (expletive) up you keep (expletive) with my president.”

Hanson, denying the accusations, stated that he’s not the person people perceive him to be and declined to discuss the pending case.

He appeared in federal court in Huntsville and is set for a formal arraignment in Atlanta on November 13. U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan emphasized the severity of threatening public servants, stating that it undermines the foundation of society. This incident echoes a broader trend, as a Texas woman was arrested in August for allegedly threatening members of Congress and the federal judge overseeing a case against Trump in Washington.
