Both teams emerge as regional champions, advancing to the Elite Eight.
Alexandria secured their spot in the state tournament with a resounding 3-0 victory over Lawrence County in the AHSAA Class 5A North Super Regional final. Coach Whitney Welch emphasized the team’s fearless approach, epitomized by their “no ceilings” mantra, breaking free from past limitations.
Pleasant Valley, the reigning Class 2A runner-up, asserted their dominance with a 3-0 triumph over Lexington in the North Super Regional final. The Raiders, on a remarkable 17-match winning streak, clinched victory without dropping a set in the challenging competition at Huntsvilles Von Braun Center.
For Pleasant Valley’s head coach Dana Bryant, who announced her retirement in August, this season carries a poignant goalthe elusive state title. Last year’s flu-induced setback in the state final fueled their determination. This Super Regional title, the first under Bryant, marks a fitting chapter in her 18-year coaching career.

In Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl Multiplex, Faith Christian secured its Elite Eight berth with victories in the first round and quarterfinals at the South Regional. They will face Sweet Water in the semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m.
Cherokee County, competing in the 4A North Super Regional, earned their place in the state tournament by reaching the semifinals. Their next challenge awaits against Madison County in the 10 a.m. semifinals on Friday.
Spring Garden demonstrated their prowess in Class 1A North, sweeping Jefferson Christian and Shoals Christian to secure a spot in Birmingham’s regional semifinals. The Panthers are set to face Addison on Friday at 10 a.m.
Additional area teams securing state berths in Wednesdays North Super Regional include Oxford (Class 6A), Glencoe (Class 3A), Donoho (Class 1A), and in the South, Wellborn marks its return to the state tournament for the first time since 2004.
