The Academy Award-winning actress took to her Instagram account on Thursday to share a heartfelt message, revealing the end of a significant relationship.
“While there are more pressing matters in the world right now, and my heart goes out to those in deep suffering,” the note begins, “it’s crucial for me to speak my personal truth and publicly distance myself from someone I can no longer trust.”
Nyong’o continued, expressing the pain of a love abruptly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.
“I’m tempted to retreat into the shadows, to reemerge only when I’ve regained the strength to say, ‘Whatever, my life is better this way,'” she shared. “Yet, I’m reminded that the intensity of my pain equals the depth of my capacity for love. So, I choose to confront the pain, summoning the courage to face my life exactly as it is and trusting that this too shall pass.”
Although she didn’t explicitly name the individual, recent speculation links Nyong’o to television host and sports commentator Selema Masekela. The couple made their relationship public on social media in December 2022.
Nyong’o received an outpouring of support from her celebrity friends.
