Residents Respond to Fatal Gunfire: Resembling Automatic Weapon Fire in Eastern Bexar County

Residents Respond to Fatal Gunfire: In the early hours of what seemed like a peaceful Sunday morning, gunshots suddenly broke the silence in a quiet East Side neighbourhood. The quick series of shots, which neighbour Joy Johnson compared to the steady fire of a machine gun, scared and shook the community.

When morning came, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office officers who had been called to the scary reports were in for a terrible surprise. When they got there, they found the body of a young man. Many bullet holes in his upper chest made it look awful, a sobering reminder of the violence that had broken out in the middle of this usually calm neighbourhood.

A young man in his late teens or early twenties was found lying in the front yard of a house in the 6300 block of Candlewick Court. It was a sad and ugly picture that didn’t belong in this quiet neighbourhood.

According to the preliminary investigations that BCSO detectives did, the victim didn’t seem to have any link to the property where he was found. This terrible accident brings up another troubling question. As a result of this new knowledge, there are now many more questions about what happened that led to this senseless act of violence.

The tragedy changed the people who lived nearby’s sense of safety for good. People had long considered the area a safe place, but the terrible events that morning changed their minds for good. One worried neighbour said that the event had made their once-calm site scary. Because they were aware of the bigger picture, they knew that sometimes people from outside the community would come, and not all would have good motives.

No quick fixes were available, even though shock and worry were felt all over town. The BCSO stayed alert as they searched for justice and worked hard to find the person responsible for this terrible killing. As the investigation had just started, the community prayed that this terrible tragedy would be dealt with quickly and firmly.
