Wilson County Robert Atkins Capture: A Week-Long Fugitive Hunt Ends

Wilson County Robert Atkins Capture: Robert Atkins, 33, was caught after a week on the run. He tried to escape from Wilson County police.

On September 17, officers chased Atkins, but he escaped into the woods.

After receiving tips, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office monitored a house on Blackjack Road. There, they found Atkins repairing a car. Cops called for additional help to catch him.

Atkins and two women set up a barrier from a pickup truck. When police tried to stop Atkins for speeding, he resisted and drove toward US 87.

Deputies tried to corner Atkins’ truck to prevent him from getting on the highway, resulting in a crash with a Texas Highway Patrol car. The trooper in the police car was unharmed, but Atkins’s car was severely damaged.

Atkins attempted to flee but was apprehended by the police. Both women with him were also arrested.

They were in a stolen truck, according to San Antonio police.

Atkins is charged with felony theft, vehicle burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, eluding arrest with a motor vehicle (previous conviction), eluding arrest (on foot) (prior conviction), possession of a controlled substance PG1 >1G, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and more crimes. Atkins jailed on $460K bond.

Linda Atkins, 60, and Amber Melugin, 38, are also charged. Melugin faces a felony impeding capture charge, while Atkins is charged with possessing illegal drugs.

The sheriff’s office was pleased with the teamwork in catching Atkins and putting him in jail.
