Apri McLaughlin lived in a unique house. She helped animals in trouble. But something was off.
April’s house had a bad smell, scaring her neighbours. They reported to the police about the house’s foul odour and cluttered state.
When the police entered, they discovered something terrible. There were 52 dogs in the house, all sick. Most were old and needed more care. But no water, which was Bad.
Even the firefighters wore special gear to breathe in the smelly house. It smelled worse than anything imaginable.

April McLaughlin went to jail due to all of this. She mistreated kids and dogs, so she went to jail. She faced 55 counts of animal cruelty and an additional charge for her messy house where her elderly mother lived.

April said she ran the animal shelter for a year and cared for too many dogs. Remember, if you have too many animals to care for, it’s okay to ask for help.
April paid $2,500 to leave jail, as stated by the judge. She had to pay instead of just saying she’d come back. The judge mentioned that April would receive legal assistance, but the specific lawyer was still unknown.
Despite its sadness, this story teaches us much. It teaches us how to care for animals. We must place them in clean and safe locations, ensuring they have sufficient food and water.
