Supporting SJRC Texas: Empowering Parents and Families at the Big Give San Antonio

Supporting SJRC Texas: We support SJRC Texas at the Big Give charity event in San Antonio. This agency covers 27 Texas counties and offers various services for foster families and parents.

Casey Heckendorf knows parenting is harsh. With two kids, ages 15 and 4, he understands how parenthood brings rapid changes.

He agrees it’s shameful for a father to ask for help. But he overcame that shame two years ago by joining SJRC’s Fatherhood Initiative program for men who care for their children.

The Fatherhood Initiative program helps men learn about child development and set realistic goals. This reduces child abuse cases and prevents them.

More people have joined parenting programs in the past four years, highlighting their importance.

The program brings parents and kids closer through activities like fishing trips and gym games.

Parents need to communicate and discuss shared worries. This fosters community.

Heckendorf’s family lives far away, so this trip may make him feel alone. Melissa Loyola, a Community Prevention Supervisor at SJRC, has been a great help with her support. She has aided him in various stages of parenting, providing him with valuable coaching opportunities.

The program offers solutions for issues like a child’s changing food preferences and cooking techniques.

Heckendorf can’t believe this program is free, and he considers its effects to be global.

He hopes the community will continue funding this program and other SJRC projects.

The Big Give, from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 p.m. Thursday, let the community fund essential activities.
