Former Colorado Police Officer Jordan Steinke: Sentenced to Probation After Tragic Incident

Former Colorado Police Officer Jordan Steinke: After a tragedy, Jordan Steinke, a former Colorado police officer, was convicted of endangering and assaulting someone recklessly. He did 30 months of probation. Steinke restrained a woman and placed her in a police car. On Sep 16, 2022, a train hit a vehicle near Platteville.

In July, Judge Timothy Kerns sentenced Steinke and cleared him of attempted murder. The judge considered jail, but the prosecutor and defense argued for probation.

Steinke must complete 100 hours of community service during her term. Judge Kerns vaguely warned her that he would alter her sentence for rule violations.

At her sentencing, Steinke apologized to Yareni Rios-Gonzalez for the caused harm. She also mentioned it hurt her a lot. Steinke also wanted to educate new police officers about train track dangers and being aware of their surroundings to help her neighborhood.

When Steinke caught Rios-Gonzalez and put her in a police car owned by Sgt. Pablo Vazquez, something terrible happened. Rios-Gonzalez was severely injured when a train collided with their parked car on railroad tracks. Due to this, he has permanent brain damage.

Chris Ponce, Rios-Gonzalez’s lawyer, knew her life had changed, and she cared about Steinke, despite mixed feelings.

Steinke’s police career ended with her conviction, and her license may be revoked by the Peace Officer Standards and Training program. Due to this, she can’t work for the cops again.

At trial, Steinke argued she didn’t know it was Vazquez’s plan to park the police car on the tracks. Due to the crash, Vazquez still faces charges of reckless endangerment and driving violations
