Butler, known for her work in critical theory, gender studies, and sexuality studies, said that gender is not fixed but rather shaped by society, history, and identity. She discussed how transgenderism emerged from the feminist movement’s battle against gender roles and sex stereotypes.
Butler says transgender freedom has changed things. This change is evident in the evolving language around sex and gender. Language changes, especially in discussing sex and gender separately, are causing an ideological shift.
Butler stated that the agenda aims to challenge ideas and provoke discomfort, even in progressive and liberal groups. She used racism as an example to demonstrate how language changes can alter societal views, such as when discussing Black individuals.
Butler’s first theory was that femininity doesn’t equate to motherhood, but she later focused on transgenderism. She doesn’t want to defend a theory of gender. She aims to discover innovative solutions for the challenges faced by the transgender movement.

Butler said some oppose transgender self-definition as it prompts self-reflection. She questioned the concept of a fixed gender identity and proposed that it may develop uniquely for each individual. Butler linked racial justice to gender equality. She said these problems are crucial for equality battles in society. Butler didn’t respond to a comment request despite thought-provoking views.
