2024 GOP Primary Debate Race: Trump Dominates, Ramaswamy Sparks Controversy

2024 GOP Primary Debate Race: The third GOP primary debate failed to shake up the presidential race, leaving the state of affairs essentially unchanged. The familiar cast of candidates addressed recurring issues such as Ukraine, China, fentanyl, and the economy, offering little novelty.

Governor Ron DeSantis reprised his role as the accomplished Florida governor with conservative accomplishments. Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley maintained her image as a smart and tough foreign-policy professional. Senator Tim Scott committed to his role as the Ned Flanders of the campaign.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took shots at Donald Trump, who remained the star of the 2024 GOP primary show, despite holding his own rally in Florida to counter-program the debate. Trump criticized the debates as “not watchable” and announced his non-participation in the upcoming fourth debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Vivek Ramaswamy played the designated antagonist, labeling the GOP as the “party of losers” and challenging the RNC chair to resign over electoral performance. He insulted  moderators, suggesting Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Elon Musk for better viewership. Ramaswamy attacked Nikki Haley’s abilities as a mother and engaged in a heated exchange with her during the debate.

Despite differing opinions on the winner, with some favoring Haley for her defense and counterattacks and others praising DeSantis for being the most serious and thoughtful, the overall sentiment suggested the debate did not significantly sway votes. Some called for thinning the herd in the GOP field if they want a candidate who can beat Biden, indicating a desire for alternatives to Trump.
