UNA Men Basketball Triumphs Over Alabama: The University of North Alabama men’s basketball squad secured a 2-0 record, triumphing over in-state rival Alabama A&M with an 83-67 victory at Florence’s CB&S Bank Arena.
UNA initiated a 7-0 run early on, securing a lead that lasted throughout, entering the half with a double-digit advantage. The Lions maintained control, leading by as much as 24 points in the latter part of the second half.
Three Lions achieved double-figure scoring, spearheaded by senior KJ Johnson with 16 points. Johnson and junior Josiah Fulcher showcased consecutive double-figure performances, with Fulcher contributing 12 points and eight rebounds in the game.
ASUN Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year, Jacari Lane, added 15 points in 21 minutes, leading the team with four assists. Damian Forrest continued his rebounding prowess with 11 rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double with nine points.
Alabama A&M, led by Dailin Smith with 15 points and four boards, fell to 0-1 in their official season opener, following a 111-59 exhibition win against Oakwood on Monday.
The Lions maintain a historical 20-6 record against the Bulldogs since 1970, with the only road victory for Alabama A&M occurring in 1974.
