Alfa Youth Leadership Conference: Shapes Future Ag Leaders in Alabama

Alfa Youth Leadership Conference: The 2023 Alfa Youth Leadership Conference brought together 87 high school freshmen and sophomores from across Alabama at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana on November 13-14. Hosted by the Alabama Farmers Federation, the conference focused on developing crucial life and ag advocacy skills.

The event commenced with networking opportunities for students from various parts of the state. Character development sessions were led by professional speakers Noah Galloway and Rhett Laubach. Galloway, a veteran and double amputee, shared his story of triumph over tragedy, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and making a positive impact. Laubach conducted high-energy workshops to help students develop leadership characteristics.

In addition to character development sessions, students engaged in outdoor activities, team-building exercises, and heard from a panel of young farmers about future careers and opportunities in agriculture. Federation Young Farmers Division Director Hunter McBrayer highlighted the significance of leadership in ag advocacy.

The conference included a service project where students assembled wooden toys for patients at Children’s of Alabama Hospital during the holiday season. The initiative aimed to instill the value of service in future leaders.

Alabama Ag Credit and Alabama Farm Credit, the Alfa Youth Leadership Conference played a crucial role in fostering leadership skills and promoting a sense of community service among the young participants.
